Join us for our free summer wellness series with the Ocean County Library. NJ4S COMPASS Prevention Consultants will be providing informative and engaging workshops for students and caregivers throughout the summer. Participants can attend any/all of the workshops offered. 

This event is open to Ocean County students in grades K-2 and their caregivers. Programming for caregivers and students will be offered simultaneously. Don’t miss it!

The Mindful Parent
During this workshop, parents and caregivers will be provided with helpful tools that support children to confidently navigate their emotions and daily lives in school, sports, and family. 

What Is Mindfulness and Why Is It Important?
This session teaches children ways to reduce stress and feel calm through a story and activities, such as breathing techniques.

Happy Habits Club
This program focuses on social and emotional learning by teaching students about random acts of kindness and emotional intelligence. Students learn how to develop habits that will promote positive self-esteem and creative problem solving. The sessions integrate mental wellness principles through storytelling and interactive activities. 

Meet The Happy Habits Club
Flip, Flop, and Flo are bunny rabbit sisters who created a club to teach others the importance of happiness and how to turn a frown upside down. They teach their friends the Happy Habits Dance to put them in a happy mood anytime.

This program allows caregivers to explore effective communication strategies, including breathing techniques, identifying emotions, and a 3-step system for resolving conflict. The skills taught will help caregivers and children to calmly and clearly communicate.

This session teaches children how thoughts and emotions influence behaviors. Through a story and interactive activities,  children will learn ways to think and act positively.

Tank the Turtle wanted to win the race, but he couldn’t keep up with the others. His friends cheered him on and taught him that doing his best and not quitting was more important than winning.

With a focus on positive reinforcement, communication techniques, and individualized support, this program empowers parents and caregivers to cultivate a nurturing environment that promotes a child’s overall development and well-being. 

Helping Children Express Their Feelings
This session introduces children to what a conflict is and gives them tools to respond to and resolve conflict. Children will learn about “I-Statements” as a way of expressing feelings. Through a story and activities, children will experience how to use simple statements to explain their feelings in positive ways.

This lesson provides children time and space to think about and practice gratitude. After listening to a story, the children will learn to focus on all they’re grateful for in a mindfulness gratitude activity.
